Why I Paint

“My passion for painting comes from the powerful connection

I feel to the landscape.

Here, on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, the marshes and estuaries, and the quality of the light from the big open sky, all tantalize me. Can I reach out and grab them, and reduce them to paint?

In my figurative work, I am challenged to build the human form from a few essential elements - shapes and color - which on the canvas, take on their own identities as I paint.

I seek magical moments - some dramatic, some serene - to capture in paint.”
